Kalimba House Corporation was formed in January 2002 for the purpose of providing affordable housing for recovering persons, using the Oxford House model as it's guide. The members of Kalimba House Corporation have acombined total of over 25 years of Oxford House experience, having held all positions that are common place in an Oxford House.

Kalimba House Corporation strives to find houses in good locations, which are easily accessible by public transportation. The rooms inside a Kalimba owned house are often viewed as luxurious suites by the residents. In keeping the housing affordable and operating the houses under the democratic process, Kalimba seeks to allow each and every resident the opportunity to feel "right at home" in keeping with the Illinois Oxford House motto of "A place we call home".
